Common Questions About UsWhat is your Sunday morning service like?At Northland Community Church we use a blend of traditional and contemporary music during our Sunday morning services. Other elements of the service include prayer and messages of hope from the Bible. What about my children? We currently provide a staffed nursery for children from birth to three years old. We are in the process of beginning a children's ministry for older children as well. What do you believe? Our beliefs are outlined here. How do I become a member?Membership classes are offered at least twice during the year and usually take place during the Sunday school hour. Everyone is welcome to attend classes in order to find out more about Northland. Those seeking membership at the conclusion of the class are accepted into membership through an informal ceremony which takes place during the Sunday morning service. Why is your church called a "community" church? We belong to a denomination called the United Brethren in Christ through which we identify with other believers in Christ and participate in sending and supporting missionaries around the world. However, as a local church, our ministry is primarily to those in our immediate vicinity, so we include "Community" in our name. We want to be a blessing to those around us. Where do I take my children? The staffed nursery is down the stairs, through the hallway, and is the third door on the left. There is also a small unstaffed infant room at the rear of the sanctuary through which the service may be seen and heard. How did your church begin?Northland began in 1983 as the result of much prayer by a group of community members who felt the need for a church on what was, at the time, a main road leading from several small communities into Traverse City. Here are some questions of interest especially to potential first-time visitors: How do I find your church? We have complete directions and a Google map. Where do I park?If you plan to attend Sunday school and have children, the lower lot would be most convenient. If you are an adult or come just in time for the service, the upper lot would be more convenient. What entrance do I use? When I enter, which way do I go?Enter through the lower entrance for Sunday school and coffee time. The children's Sunday school area will be directly ahead, the second door on the right. Follow the hall to restrooms and stairs. The upper entrance enters into the foyer with restrooms and then to the sanctuary. The second door on the right is the infant nursery. What should I wear? You may dress however you are comfortable. You may see some people dressed up in skirts or slacks, while others wear jeans. Come as you are. Where do I find the nursery?
Do you have children's church for kids? If so, for what ages?We are in the process of beginning a children's ministry for older children. Details will follow as they become available. Where can I pick up information about your church? The welcome area is located inside the upper entrance to the left. There, you'll find pamphlets describing our beliefs and other free materials. How long do the services last? Our Sunday morning service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. |
